The science

It starts in your mitochondria.

Mitochondria are the structures inside your cells that produce energy. Red and near-infrared light pass through skin and are absorbed by them — a process researchers call photobiomodulation.

It has been studied for more than thirty years across skin, muscle recovery, circulation, sleep, and mood. We keep a library of that research on this site so you can read it yourself rather than take our word for it.

Your station is a private room with a lockable door and your own dressing area. Three nearly six-foot panels surround you on three sides, so a single session reaches you head to toe. You are welcome to undress for more skin exposure, although it is not required.

Red and near-infrared light has been studied for more than three decades. This is a curated, fully linked reading list of that published research and expert commentary, gathered so you can read it yourself rather than take our word for it.

These studies examine red and near-infrared light as a field. They do not describe outcomes from Radiant Life Force equipment, and their inclusion here is not a claim that any result shown in them applies to our panels or sessions.

    Lectures, conference talks and long-form interviews with researchers working in photobiomodulation. Listed in full so you can hear the arguments in their own words. The notes under each are drawn from the publishers’ own descriptions and episode notes.

    These conversations discuss red and near-infrared light as a research field. They are not descriptions of Radiant Life Force equipment, no speaker has any connection to this business, and their inclusion is not a claim that anything discussed applies to our panels or sessions.     Using Red Light to Improve Metabolism & the Harmful Effects of LEDs

    • Sets out the full solar spectrum, from ultraviolet near 300nm through visible light to infrared near 3000nm, and why we only see a narrow slice of it.
    • Describes long-wavelength light being absorbed by water inside mitochondria, and its reported effect on ATP production.
    • Presents Jeffery’s finding that brief exposure to 670nm deep red light improved color vision in older adults, with the effect persisting for several days.
    • Discusses blood glucose regulation, indoor lighting, and his argument that short-wavelength-heavy LED lighting is harmful.
    • Advises against laser devices for general wellness use, and suggests 630–660nm red with 810–850nm near-infrared for panels.

    Included deliberately, and critical of LED devices. Prof. Jeffery argues that short-wavelength-heavy light from LEDs is harmful and recommends halogen or incandescent household lighting. Our panels are LED. We include this because you should hear the strongest argument against the technology we use, not only the arguments for it. The red and near-infrared wavelengths he recommends are among the seven our panels carry.
